Harry was 17 years old when the family moved from near Glenmont to Akron
and he enrolled in business college shortly afterwards. He was employed
by Carmichael Construction Co. in Akron, and he stayed with this firm all
of his working life. When he retired at age 62, he was president of the
company.
As a young man he was interested in photography. He enjoys spectator sports and he loved to hunt and fish, making quite a few trips to Canada.

George was born on the family farm, a few miles north of Greer and off of
present Ohio 514 and grew up there. Ohio 514 was originally known as the
Lakeville-Greersville Road and was so shown in the 1857 Holmes Co Atlas.
He learned the carpenter trade, along with brother Fred, from their
father. In his younger days they built quite a few barns in the
Greer-Glenmont vicinity. He bought a farm on 514 where he and Alice lived
and the 4 children were born. He prospered and bought additional land
including has father and mother's farm when they moved to Loudonville. In
later years, they remodeled the house on the old homeplace and lived
there for some years after their retirement.
