Harold was only 3 years old when his mother died and only 13 when his father died. The only mother he ever knew was his 3 sisters who were, successively, the head of his father's household. After his father died, he lived with has sister, Lulu, on a farm near Moreland in Wayne County. When he was around 14, he had the misfortune to crack his hip bone and, because of difficulty in pinpointing the seat of his trouble and also a long stay in a body cast in Children's Hospital in Akron, he was left with one leg shorter than the other. This disability interfered with his schooling and has handicapped him all of his life. After recovery, he worked on farms in the Nashville-Loudonville area. Soon after marriage he started sharecropping in this area and after a few years they purchased the farm where they now live, northwest of Nashville. They have prospered even with his handicap. Harold has been a hard worker all of his life. He operated the Township Road maintainer for years and was also a township trustee for some years, all in addition to his farming. He helped organize and was an active member of the Nashville Fire Dept. and still cooks at many of their fund raising activities. He also atught Red Cross 1st Aid classes for some years. Rosie was the daughter of Martin and Ada (Reichert) Stitzlein. She was born on a farm about a mile NE of Greer and graduated from Loudonville HS. She has been a good mother, a good cook and a hard worker. For many years, until they interfered with dairy operation, she raised and kept a large flock of chickens which kept the fami y in groceries and operating money. She also made a large garden and put up a large quantity to canned fruits and vegetables every year which, with 4 hungry children, was quite an item. She also helped with the milking until the boys were big enough to take over. She is a devout member of Zion Lutheran Chruch and has been active in chruch affairs as well as helping Harold prepare food for Fire Dept affairs. They are both well liked and respected in their community.
