Herbert was a son of Eli and Emma (Schmidt) Mackey. They farmed their entire lives near Nashville, Moreland in Wayne Co., and Holmesville. They made a home for his father and step-mother, who was also Lulu's aunt (Dorn) (McMillen) Mackey. Lulu's brother, Harold, also lived with them until he started out on his own.
Obituary: Herbert M. Mackey, 82 Fredericksburg - Herbert M. Mackey, 82, of Fredericksburg RD 1, died Sunday morning at his home following a long illness. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home, with Rev. Leonard Tippie officiating. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 2:30-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born April 25, 1889, in Holmes County to Eli and Emma Schmid Mackey. He was married to Lula Breitenbucher June 2, 1919. She died i n 1958. Surviving are: two sons, James Makey of Buckeye, Ariz. , and Floyd Mackey of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Iona Senesy of Akron and Mrs. Terry (Norma) Johnson of Millersburg RD 1; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Mackey and Edgar Mackey, both of Shelby. He was a retired farmer.
