Kidney disease
Uremic poisoning caused by a kidney disorder
BURI
George Henry was the oldest of 2 brothers and 1 sister. He was only 5 years old when his father died. He almost immediately became responsible for helping to maintain the home. He worked out at an early age, by the day, oftentimes in exchange of work with other farm people so that they could maintain the family farm. His mother died when he was 21 and he continued to maintain the home until his sister Ella married. Brother Dan went to live with his sister and so, for the first time in their lives, George and William (Bill) were able to consider their earnings as their own.
By the time he was 27 he had accumulated enough to start farming for himself. He and Ella were married and rented a farm about 1.5 miles NW of Big Prairie on what is now OH 226. The three girls were born here. Shortly after Betty was born they moved to the Ed Weimer farm (1908), about 1.5 miles W of Nashville, and lived there until Ella's and his death. Harold was born here and was only 3 years old when the mother died, after a long period of failing health. The housekeeping then devolved in turn on Lulu, Helen and then Betty.
George died at age 56 from uremic poisoning caused by a kidney disorder that could have easily been cured by our present day medical practice. He was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran (Kaylor Ridge) Church at an early age. He joined his wife, Ella, in the Christian Church in Nashville. They were both good Christian people, good parents and well thought of in the community. After her death, he continued to make a good home for his children until his own untimely death. His entire life, from childhood on, was one of hard work.
Obituary: GEORGE HENRY BREITENBUCHER was born Oct. 12, 1868 at the old homestead on Kaylor Ridge and died at the General Hospital in Mansfield on Jan. 17, 1924 at the age of 55 years 3 mon., 5 days. He was married to MARY ELLEN MCMILLEN Dec. 19, 1895. Their union was blessed with four children, three daughters and one son. Sixteen years ago (1908) he moved from Big Prairie to the Ed Weimer farm 2 miles west to Nashville where he has resided ever since. His wife passed to her reward in 1913. Since that time he has kept the home together and faithfully labored for his children. He was taken suddenly ill on Wed. and was hurried to the Mansfield hospital in hope of saving his life but all in vain for the Lord called him home on Thurs. evening. He was a member of the Christian Church, by his death the Church has lost one of its best members as he was always at his post, ever ready to do what was called upon to do. He is survived by his four children, Mrs. Lulu Mackey, Mrs. Helen Arnholt, Elizabeth, and Harold, two brothers William near Nashville, Daniel of Akron, and one sister Mrs. John Stumbaugh of Greer also four grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He will be missed in the home, in the church, and in the neighborhood. Why he should be taken in the prime of his life when he was so much needed is one of our mysteries but some day we will understand. The remains were brought to his late home on Thurs. evening by J. R. Taylor and the services were held at the Christian Church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by his Pastor Rev. H. Knoell. One of the largest crowds that ever attended a funeral here were present showing the high esteem in which he was held. Burial was made in the Nashville Cemetery.
