As a young man, Manuel did carpentry work around Greer and Danville, Ohio with his brother Simon and father Christian. The barn he helped build is still standing across the fields from where John Bross is now living. He was a violin maker and also made sleighs and even hammered out the runners on the sleighs.

Manuel was a very hard worker and died of a hemorrhage at the age of 26 years, 5 months, and 28 days. He is buried beside his father and mother in Workman Cemetery at Danville, Ohio. Manuel never married.

DESTROYED BY FIRE

The Farm Residence of E. L. Stitzlein, on Honeycreek, Burnt to the Ground on Last Satruday Night.

The farm residence of E. L. Stitzlein, about four miles northwest of town, was entirely destroyed by fire last Saturday evening about 9 o'clock. Mrs. Stitzlein and her four children had gone upstairs and retired for the night, while Mr. Stitzlein was in the kitchen reading, when the fire was discovered.

Mrs. Stitzlein noticed the flames, that apparently originated from a defective flue, notified her husband, and together they wrapped the children in the bed-clothes and carried them to a place of safety. Neighbors in the vicinity were notified, but even with their assistance only a limited amount of the household furniture was saved from the flames. Nealy all of the household goods in the second story and everything in the cellar, including apples, potatoes, meats and canned fruit were swallowed up in the flames. In fact only a few articles onthe first floor was saved, as the high winds assisted materially in reducing the structure to ashes in a very short time after the fire was discovered.

The house and contents were insured in the Washington Township Insurance Company for $1,000, yet the loss will be felt keenly by Mr. and Mrs. Stitzlein, who have the symapthy of the entire community.
