Settled in Holmes Co in 1850. In business with his father (general merchandise) until 1890. twp clerk for 4 years and treasurer.

Both Adam Stitzlein and his wife Carrie are buried at Kaylor Ridge. Adam was postmaster and keeper of a general store for many years in Greer. After WW1 in 1918, because business was not very good, he sold out and the whole family moved to Lake Charles, LA, in an open touring car. At that time, this was quite an adventurous thing to do and there was quite a bit of critisism of their foolhardiness. However they established themselves in Lake Charles, which was then a small town and the family, as a whole, prospered. Adam while in Ohio, owned and operated a country general store and was also postmaster for the small town of Greersville (Greer) (RR station Edlam). His business was not too good and in early 1918 his sons Gus and Glenn induced him to close out and the family moved to Louisiana. Many of his relatives were critical of the move, being afraid that they would get out into wild western country, among strangers, and that the whole family would starve. In reality, it wasn't nearly as foolhardy a move as his father made when they emigrated from the old country. They left in the winter of 1917-1918 in an open touring car; 6 people and their baggage. There were no paved roads at the time and very few that were graveled except in some of the towns. They made it through dirt, mud, and dust to Lake Charles which was then a comparitively small town. Over all, it was a good move for the family and they prospered after some lean years. They were pretty much isolated from the rest of their family for quite a few years. Travel was hard, it is easier to go to Europe today than it was to travel between Louisiana and Ohio then.
